For parents
Questions parents often ask
What’s the best age for a newborn session, and why?
Ideally either at the hospital two days after birth, or in the studio at 5 to 12 days old. At this age babies sleep deeply most of the time and aren’t bothered by light or sound, their bodies are flexible so we can pose them gently and safely, their features are still tiny, and they’re less likely to cry or startle.
Can you photograph a baby older than 12 days?
Yes, we photograph newborns up to 2 months, but the session is a little harder: babies sleep less and are more awake and alert, we need more time and patience, and some poses are no longer safe or comfortable. That’s why an extra fee applies depending on the baby’s age. Our advice: book early.
When should we book a newborn session?
Ideally during pregnancy, or on the first day after birth.
How long does a session take?
Between 30 minutes and 3 hours, depending on the session type.
Do you provide outfits and props?
Yes. We provide the props, and outfits are included (using them is optional).
How do we prepare for a newborn session?
Keep your baby awake before the session so they sleep during the shoot, feed them right before you start, and dress them in simple clothes that are easy to take off. Most of all, try to stay relaxed: a calm mum means a calm baby. Calm is the key to the session; we’re one team working towards beautiful photos, so let the photographer work at her own pace. She knows exactly how to handle your baby and which poses suit them.
Do you use a dummy (pacifier) during the session?
It’s our secret weapon, if parents are happy for us to use one: it calms the baby in a moment and helps the session flow. Don’t worry, your baby won’t get attached to it from one photo session.
